Blackwell Spotters Attend 6th Annual Weather Festival

Weather Festival

On Saturday October 29, 2011, most of the Blackwell Spotters descend on the National Weather Service offices in Norman Oklahoma to join up with spotters from all over the country to participate in the National Weather Festival. This weather festival celebrating it's 6th year included many activities including a storm chaser car show, NWS Tours, weather balloon launches, children's activities and a lot of learning opportunities.

Blackwell and Kay County was well represented in this festival and was attended by John Utech, Brett Shipman, Mick Phillips, Billie Phillips, Lonnie McCullough, and Chris Caldwell. There were over 50 storm chase vehicles on display as well as the Oklahoma Highway Patrol's command center vehicles, and the Oklahoma Department of Health's disaster response vehicle. This year, Chris Caldwell took home the 1st place trophie for the TV Chaser class as well as the People's Choice award. Donations recieved from the people's choice and the T-Shirts was donated to the American Red Cross.

A great time was had by all who attended. Some of the photos are attached below.
