Festival 2010
BlackwellSkywarn.org attends Weather Festival 2010
by Brett Shipman - Nov. 7, 2010
BlackwellSkywarn attended this years 5th Annual 2010 National Weather Festival held in Norman
Oklahoma on Saturday November 6th. The festival has been a yearly event for the last 5 years sponsored by the
National Weather Service, OU Meteorology School, the National Severe Storms Lab, NOAA, the Norman Chamber of
Commerce, and many other organizations. The festival included balloon launches, a storm chaser car show, vendors,
music, the doppler on wheels trucks, and a lot of fun.
Participants got to view more than 50 storm chaser cars on display this year. The car categories
included Professional, Private Spotters, Media, and Researchers. This was the largest showing we had seen at the
festival this year. Even Reed Timmers Dominator was on display for the more than 5000 people who showed up this
year.
Participants also got to witness hourly balloon launches outside from the lawn of the weather
center. Inside the weather center visitors got to meet media professionals, see some of the latest storm chasing
gear, meet the Team from TVN, tour the weather center, and participate in games and fun.
BlackwellSkywarn has attended all 5 of the Festivals. We would have to say this was the largest and
best show of them yet. We look forward to attending next years event as well.
Photos to come.
